Though I have thoroughly enjoyed every phase of Ryker thus far, his toddler years are stealing my heart and have become one of my favorites and here's why:
His adorable little smile that, with one endearing flash of his pearly baby whites can turn my heart into a helpless pool of sentimental slush. The hugs and spontaneous outburst of affection have been more delicious (and more addictive) than anything I ever dreamed of. His voice-cuter than a voice has a right to be, uttering achingly adorable mispronunciation after mispronunciation. The moments, those thousand and one enchanting moments, the ones that have entertained me, charmed me and made me feel blessed. The imaginary play that I get to partake in on a daily basis and his creativity that makes him so unique. The way he sings, the way he dances and the way he babbles to himself while flipping through a book. The excitement that fills his face every time he sees a big BIG truck, a backhoe, a garbage truck or a digger. The way he moves, the way he cuddles, the way he laughs, the way he plays, and the way he sleeps.....This is what makes me love this phase more than any other phase thus far.
At Rykers' 2 year well check he weighed 27 pounds 5 ounces and was 34.5 inches tall. He continues to grow right along the 25% for weight and 50% for height. Ryker's vocabulary exploded at 21 months (hard to look back and think that I was ever concerned about this), he went from saying about 30 words and hardly repeating anything to a talking machine that repeats EVERYTHING!!! His is still doing swim lessons once a week and sadly I no longer get into the water with him. His coach (Jeremy) is amazing with him and Ryker seemed to adapt to the changes just fine. I do have to admit that I am slightly nervous as to how he will do when he gets moved up to the next class and Jeremy is no longer his coach (Jeramy has been working with him since he was 3 months old). He is also still attending Mom's Day Out (MDO) which if you don't remember is a pre pre-school program at a local church. He is making huge strides in this department. Ryker struggled with me leaving him for anytime at all for the first several months, but thankfully their program was very understanding of this and they have allowed me to sit in his class while he gets used to it. I now am able to leave him for about an hour and a half before he starts getting sad and wanting me to come back. The total class time is 2 hours and 45 minutes so we are getting there. He has made a bunch of buddies and keeps his eye on this adorable little girl named "Maya". I think the feeling is pretty mutual because she is the first to run up to him and hold his hand when he gets sad.........so cute! To keep us busy during the cold months we attend both Sycamore and DeKalb's weekly story hour (he loves this and actually sees a bunch of his buddies from MDO), and attend his favorite activity of the week "Open Gym" every Friday morning. We are looking into adding a Music and Movement class and a Parent-Tot Sports class, both of which I sure he will love. My mom is still watching Ryker 2 days a week while I work (he loves his Mimi time) and Kris has him every 3rd weekend. Thus far, we have not really experienced any of the terrible two's (I hope I didn't just jinks myself there). Ryker is still such a sweet, well mannered little boy and has made my job extremely easy! He is still taking one 2+ hour nap a day and GENERALLY sleeps 1o+ hours straight at night. Ryker has 16 teeth and currently working on all 4 of his 2 year old molars (yikes!). Ryker continue to be the pickiest eater in the world and has a sweet tooth a mile long (this is probably our biggest struggle). Next up on our to do list:
Potty training and moving him into a big boy bed :) More updates to come!
Hope everyone is enjoying our warm winter weather :)
