This last week has felt like I've been carrying the karate kid inside my belly with all the kicking going on! Our little man has been very busy and I'm loving every second of it. His little punches have gotten so much stronger and I swear he's been doing lots of somersaults inside this belly of mine. His punches and kicks have gotten so strong that you can feel him moving around externally now and Kris has even been able to feel our little sluggers strong left hook. He's growing by leaps and bounds, reaching nine inches in length and passing the pound and a half mark. By the beginning of my 26th week he will have reached a whopping 2 pounds. Under his skin, capillaries are forming and filling with blood and by the end of this week, air sacs will develop in his lungs, getting him ready for his first breath. Mind you, those lungs aren't ready for prime time just yet, but they are developing surfactant, a substance that will help them expand after birth. And speaking of breathing, his tiny nostrils, which have been plugged up until now, are starting to open and his vocal chords are getting ready to roar. His eyes, which until now were developing under fused eyelids, start to open. Of course, there's not much to see in there.
The babies room is currently under construction and I promise to post pictures as soon as it's done. Kris has been hard at work making sure everything turns out just right for this little guy, and I can hardly wait to see it all finished. On a closing note me and the little guy have been feeling SO much better, and only 2 more weeks until I'm in my 3rd trimester!
