A Growing Belly, A Hospital Stay, and A Big Foot!

Our little man is more than 11 inches long and just over a pound. We've entered our sixth month of pregnancy and were told by the doctor that our little man is about to chub up a bit. His saggy skin will start to fit his frame as fat deposits fill things out. Beginning this week, he will start to pack on the pounds (which means I will too!) and by the month's end he'll be double the weight he is now (though I won't be-whew!). Right now, his organs and bones are visible through his skin, which has a red hue due developing veins and arteries beneath (we'll talk more about this later). However, once those fat deposits settle in, he'll become less transparent too! The picture above is my growing belly at 23 weeks.

The last 10 days have been a little interesting for our growing family. Last Monday while I was at work our little man decided to suck every little last bit out of me and left me passed out at a staffing meeting. I was rushed down to OB where they admitted me for observation and found that he was doing just great, me however, not so well. The explanation that I was given to this craziness is that during your 2nd trimester your blood vessels dilate in order to supply enough blood to your growing baby. Most mom's bodies are able to compensate for this however, mine is struggling a bit to make ends meet. I was discharged home after being told that these episodes can continue to happen for the remainder of my 2nd trimester, but was happy to know that he was absolutely fine. I left there thinking what's the chances of this actually happening again to me, and I found out REAL SOON! I ended up having another syncopal episode on Sunday while grocery shopping at Wal-mart (great place to be in a crisis) and found that no one really cared that I was in desperate need of help. However, baby and I survived yet another fun blacking out session and continued on with our week until yesterday. Yesterday, I was rushed to the hospital with abdominal pain that was radiating to my back (up to this point, the worst pain I have ever been in). Once arriving to the hospital every symptom that I was having was leading up to preterm labor and I was taken to the high risk office for another level 2 ultrasound. We found that our little man is quite the fighter and all of this pain that I was going through wasn't fazing him a bit. Above are our new pictures of our growing baby. The ultrasound showed that I had right sided hydronephrosis (obstruction of free flowing urine from the kidney), and was told that most likely all of my pain was being caused by a kidney stone. I soon realized that I will be signing up for my epidural on the way to the hospital if this horrific pain I was experiencing was only caused by a kidney stone! I was admitted overnight in hopes that the stone would pass. The hospital stay actually went really well and my wonderful husband stayed the night with me in a twin bed (as he would say seemed like a prison bed). If only there would have been someone there to capture a picture of the two of us sleeping in this twin bed, it was quite the site! I was discharged today, feeling 100% better with hopes that the worst is over now and there are better days ahead. We have had great family and friend support over the last 10 days and wanted to take this time to thank everyone for all the love and support we have received.
