Welcome to Our Blog

Kris and I decided it would be fun to create our own blog site in order to keep our family and friends up to date on this amazing experience we are about to embark in. As most of you already know Kris and I are expecting our first baby on November 11th (were hoping this date brings a lot of luck to us)! I have just entered my 16th week and I am feeling amazing. Surprisingly the first trimester went by fairly fast and I only suffered from severe nausea (and boy do I mean severe) and Kris would say I was severely fatigued.

According to one of the many books I am currently reading on what to expect during this incredible journey, our baby is weighing anywhere from 3 to 5 ounces and has a length of 4 to 5 inches. Our baby-to-be is looking more and more like the baby we have been picturing in our dreams this week. His or her face has eyes (complete with eyebrows and eyelashes) and ears that are now in the right spots. The eye's are finally working and making side-to-side movements and can even perceive some light, though the eyelids are still sealed. Our little one is becoming more sensitive to touch this week; according to the book he or she will even squirm if I poke my belly in the right spot (though I probably won't be able to feel those squirms just yet).

Above are the pictures from our very first ultrasound at 8 weeks and our second ultrasound at 10 weeks. As you can see the progress between the 2 pictures is amazing already. Kris and I were extremely anxious to see and hear the heartbeat at our 10 week ultrasound, and the experience was absolutely amazing. However, someone made the mistake of telling us before our 10 week ultrasound that an old wise tale always said that if the heart rate was above 160 you were having a girl and a heart rate of less than 160 meant that you were having a boy. Well our little heartbeat came in a whopping 164 and from that point on Kris and I have become obsessed with knowing the rate of our little one's heart rate. With that in mind Kris and I left our 10 week ultrasound with a feeling that we were having a little girl of coarse. However, at our last doctor's appointment the heart rate came in a steady 150, and Kris left that doctor's appointment with the biggest smile on his face I have ever seen! So at this point we are once again anxiously awaiting to hear our little one's heart rate at our next appointment on June 1st (don't worry I'll be sure to keep you all update).
